One of the protagonists in the fourth season of Stranger Things, Eddie Munson, a student at Hawkins High School, became the leader of the Hellfire Club, a group of students who play the RPG Dungeons & Dragons, and the guitarist for the band Corroded Coffin. In 1986, Eddie witnessed the shocking supernatural murder of his friend Chrissy Cunningham. This motivated him to seek justice for Chrissy, teaming up with Mike Wheeler, Will Byers, Lucas Sinclair, and Dustin Henderson, as well as Eleven and Max Mayfield, to investigate her murder. Eddie became the target of Chrissy's boyfriend, Jason Carver, who mistakenly believed he was the killer, and gathered members of his basketball team to track Eddie and take justice into their own hands. Eddie and his friends discovered that Vecna, a humanoid being from an alternate dimension called the Upside Down, was responsible for Chrissy's death and continued killing others like her. In the Upside Down, Eddie used the power of heavy metal with his guitar to draw the attention of a swarm of Demobats, predatory flying creatures resembling enormous bats, part of the collective mind controlled by Vecna, while the others launched an attack on the demonic entity.
